Behind the Scenes of the 2022 Double Diamond Vintage with Thomas Rivers Brown
2022 was anything but ordinary, a year that demanded patience, precision, and a deep understanding of the vineyards. Our winemaker, Thomas Rivers Brown, reflects on the season below, providing insights that reveal why the 2022 vintage is poised to turn heads despite the many challenges we faced.
A Season of Measured Determination
"There were many kinds of harvest seasons within one single harvest in the 2022 vintage. We were left with a small crop that was on the riper side," Thomas explains. This small amount of ripe fruit translated into wines with deeper color, richer structure, and a fruit-forward character that sets them apart from years past.
A Vintage Coming Into Its Own
The 2022 wines showed continuous improvement in the barrel, with each tasting revealing more depth and nuance. Thomas notes, "The wines naturally present themselves as a little more juicy, fruit-forward, and generous. That seems to be what 2022 is."
This vintage required a measured approach. "With the variables we faced in 2022, it just took more attention to detail, more tastings, more thinking, more kicking numbers back and forth, and just being patient," says Thomas. "The result is a collection of wines that are charming and approachable now yet built to age gracefully."
What to Expect from the 2022 Double Diamond Wines
The Double Diamond Cabernet Sauvignon from 2022 showcases the best of the western Oakville bench, embodying the spirit of To Kalon Vineyard and the sheer power of the broader Oakville region. Meanwhile, the Double Diamond Proprietary Red is a Napa Valley blend inspired by classic Bordeaux blending techniques, offering a harmonious balance of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.
These wines are a testament to the art of winemaking and the unique character of the 2022 vintage. We invite you to explore these new releases when they become available and experience the culmination of a year's worth of dedication and passion.
